Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before your visit.
Learn what to expect from IKKYU’s goal-focused, whole-body approach.
Is IKKYU the same as a relaxation massage?
No. Sessions are goal-focused and may include consultation, movement assessment, hands-on treatment, movement guidance and self-care. Some clients find treatment calming, but relaxation is not its only purpose.
What happens during the first appointment?
Your first visit generally includes a discussion, relevant movement or posture observation and hands-on treatment. The exact process is adapted to you.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move is helpful.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. This depends on your goals, presentation and response. Progress should be reviewed rather than guaranteed.
Is treatment painful?
Treatment intensity is adjusted to your comfort and consent. Stronger pressure is not automatically more effective. Tell Shige immediately if anything feels sharp, concerning or unsuitable.
Can I book online?
Yes. Use Book Your Session to view current availability on IKKYU’s external booking page.
Can I claim through private health insurance?
HICAPS instant claims are available where eligible, and most Australian private health funds recognised through ANTA may provide rebates. Eligibility depends on your insurer and level of cover, so please confirm directly with your health fund before booking. Loyalty Package clients may request a receipt for manual claiming where eligible.
What is the cancellation policy?
Appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged at 100% of the appointment fee. If you arrive late, treatment time may be shortened and the full consultation fee still applies.
What if I am unsure whether IKKYU is suitable?
Contact IKKYU before booking. Severe, unexplained, worsening or urgent symptoms should be assessed by an appropriate medical professional.
